CARE FOR A LIFT WEBSITE

2020-12-17

         *UPDATE:*

The wheelchair accessible van is currently unavailable.

To access wheelchair accessible services via the Coastal Rides app, you will first need to go through a one time set up consultation with Care For A Lift (CFAL).   This is to help make sure that your wheelchair will fit properly in the van so your trips will be safe and enjoyable. Please click here to start the consultation.

Once you have completed the consultation, you will receive a special group code to enter in the group’s section of the Coastal Rides app. You will then be able to get on-demand or scheduled rides for any type of trip, when you need them.

“It all started with an ad I read in the local newspaper, someone looking for help in getting their loved one from the local hospital in Sechelt and to have their father have his last visit home for Christmas.”

More about Care For A Lift

After moving to the Coast in 2015, Maryanne Brabander, CFAL owner/ operator, recognized that there were no wheelchair accessible taxis, in a community where 34% of the population 65+1. As BC Transit Handi-Dart provides very limited accessible transportation, Maryanne launched a very important service to the Coast.

“It all started with an ad I read in the local newspaper, someone looking for help in getting their loved one from the local hospital in Sechelt and to have their father have his last visit home for Christmas.”

Maryanne had her own personal experience and knows the importance of having her mother home for special occasions. After her mother passed away, Maryanne was inspired by many locals who wanted their loved ones home for important family gatherings. A friend was selling an accessible van that was the perfect vehicle for her to help locals get their loved ones home for Christmas. Soon after, Care  For A Lift Services was established.

By partnering with Coastal Rides, Care For a Lift is able to provide point to point transportation services, something not covered by their current Passenger Transportation License. This means more independence for people with mobility issues.
