Texada Island,
A Special Place

2022-05-24

Texada Island is a special place, the largest of the Gulf Islands, Texada is 32 miles long and six miles wide at its widest point, located approximately 50 miles north of Vancouver in the Strait of Georgia. Travellers will arrive via BC Ferries at Blubber Bay, at Gilles Bay Airport via private plane or Oceanside Air, or via private boat at the Texada Boat Club.  Once you arrive, our local Texada Taxi driver can be booked via the Coastal Rides app.  Coastal Rides is a ride-hailing service just like the big companies like Uber and Lyft that operate in major cities.  Just enter your origin and destination and the driver will pick you up and get you where you want to go.

There are lots of outdoor activities on Texada, like trails at Shelter Point Regional Park for old growth forest, Mount Pocahontas for east island views and Stromberg Falls (centrally located). Large animals native to the island consist of only a small variant of the black-tailed Sitka deer. Unlike neighbouring islands and the mainland, Texada does not have any predatory mammals such wolves, cougars or bears. Pick your adventure and go, when you reach the nearest road and you’re ready to head home, just click in the app and we’ll be there shortly.

Texada Island (population: 1,200) has two main communities at Gillies Bay and Van Anda, far away from the hustle and bustle of big cities.  While sparsely populated, there are a number of Restaurants and Pubs on the Island.
