COMOX VALLEY

2021-07-07

Courtenay, Comox, and Cumberland are all located in the Comox Valley which is located within the traditional territories of the K’ómoks First Nation. This unique and truly beautiful area is centrally located on the East Coast of Vancouver Island and has a rich history of farming, fishing, logging & coal mining which set the basis of early development.

The city of Courtenay is the largest of the three communities and home to about 26,000 people. Nearby are world class golf courses, incredible mountain bike & hiking trails, and the best skiing on all of Vancouver Island at the Mt. Washington resort.

Since that time tourism and outdoor sporting activities have grown yearly as more and more people discover this wonderful spot. Let Coastal Rides, a locally operated rideshare service show you around.  Similar to taxis in Comox and Courtenay, the Coastal Rides app is your modern version of a local taxi phone number. Use the Coastal Rides rideshare app to hail a ride from a friendly local driver.

The city of Courtenay is the largest of the three communities and home to about 26,000 people. Nearby are world class golf courses, incredible mountain bike & hiking trails, and the best skiing on all of Vancouver Island at the Mt. Washington resort.

Next to Courtenay is the town of Comox which has close to 15,000 people. It lies on the southern coast of the Comox Peninsula just off the Salish Sea (Georgia Strait).  The temperate weather and warm summers attracted First Nations people here thousands of years ago, because of the great fishing and fertile land. There is an abundance of amazing marine life boat tours, outdoor recreation facilities, and even grizzly bear tours.

The quaint village of Cumberland is just east of Perseverance Creek and about 10 km from the City of Courtenay. Cumberland is home to some of the Vancouver Islands’ amazing arts, music and culture activities, along with great craft beer and homemade pizza. This small village is growing daily, but is focussed on keeping it’s small town feel while offering so much more.

The Comox Valley is a thriving coastal area made up of these three great communities. We have an international airport including daily WestJet flights and seaplanes that connect to downtown Vancouver, Calgary, Mexico, and beyond. We are also located within an hour distance to several BC Ferries terminals that access the Sunshine Coast, Gulf Islands, and Vancouver.

BC Transit has partnered with the area to provide bus services between these communities.  There is also the newly created Coastal Rides, which offers a ride-hailing service much like Uber, but built for small communities like the Comox Valley and the Sunshine Coast, BC. The Coastal Rides app offers the ability to order and pay for a ride through your smartphone, or on your computer. There is also a local taxi option as well.  Coastal Rides shuttle and rideshare is similar to the taxi, but with a convenient modern twist.

With the incredible culinary options, hotels, motels and airbnb rentals available along the coast, more and more people are discovering this friendly and picturesque community. Don’t wait, head up to the Comox Valley and treat yourself to some of BC’s finest recreation activities.
